Consensus on Teachable Character Traits |

| Select the top five character traits you believe should be included within the planned instructional objectives of your school, extra curricular program or home. The traits have been listed alphabetically and include some terms with similar meanings. Identify value for the five traits by assigning a monetary amount (in cents) with a total budget of $1.00. Example: Caring-$.25, Charity-$.25, Cheerfulness-$.15, Citizenship-$.15, Compassion-$.20 As a group, record all traits budgeted by individuals. Find the sum for same traits and then rank them by money budgeted. Reflect in your group on the ranked traits. Are there important traits that have been overlooked? Combine like terms and evaluate your top six to ten traits. Does your group agree to support the instruction of the top 1. Three traits? 2. Four to six traits? 3. More than six traits? | ||||

Community/school discovery of shared character goals is the critical first step in beginning a character education initiative which will teach moral knowing, feeling and action.
