Over two hundred character educators have been asked to respond to the question "What staff practices will I see that compliment and promote the school's character education mission?" Here are some of their responses:

  • Staff participates in a leadership committee for the school's character education mission and advance character education through positive action.
  • Teachers and administrators develop and share a common vocabulary for character development and integrate the school's character vocabulary into problem solving, cooperative learning, ethical reflection, and conflict resolution.
  • The school staff emphasizes cooperative, democratic school practices and maintains a student-center focus when developing school policies.
  • The staff displays purposeful intent to increase communication between students, parents and other community members and supports PTA efforts to encourage parent and community involvement.
  • The school staff sets positive expectations, clearly articulates expectations to student body, and models positive character through their own commitment and enthusiasm.
  • Staff plans deliberate integration of character objectives within their academic instruction.
