Over two hundred character educators have been asked to respond to the question "What will I see in and around the school building that supports the character education mission?" Here are some of their responses:

  • A respect for different cultures is evident by visual displays throughout the school building.
  • Collaborative learning is encouraged by the physical layout of classrooms.
  • School policy books are written to support the character education vision of the school.
  • Students are given opportunities to participate in instruction, reflection, and activities which include the core values supporting character.
  • Students and staff share a common vocabulary of character goals and values.
  • Student portfolios include references to character goals and completed service projects.
  • Journal writings capture student’s reflection on the meaning of character education and their own character development.
