Over two hundred character educators have been asked to respond to the question "What will I see in and around the school building that supports the character education mission?" Here are some of their responses:
- A respect for different cultures is evident by visual displays throughout the school building.
- Collaborative learning is encouraged by the physical layout of classrooms.
- School policy books are written to support the character education vision of the school.
- Students are given opportunities to participate in instruction, reflection, and activities which include the core values supporting character.
- Students and staff share a common vocabulary of character goals and values.
- Student portfolios include references to character goals and completed service projects.
- Journal writings capture student’s reflection on the meaning of character education and their own character development.
