More than 200 character educators were asked to describe the environment of a school known for its excellent
character education program. Here are some of their responses:
- The school prominently displays character education themes on a bulletin board.
- Consequences for behavior are consistent with building responsibility.
- Student writings, artwork, and portfolios reflect character education themes and attributes.
- Staff and students use common character education vocabulary.
- Students are well-mannered and display ethical behavior.
- Student service projects reflect collaboration with others in the community and identify service opportunities for others.
- Each classroom is designed to support collaborative learning among students.
- Character education resources including books, videos, and music are available in the school library.
