     Over two hundred character educators have been asked to respond to the question "What documents and statements will I see that define the school’s Character Education mission?" Here are some of their responses:

  • Student designed school handbook with a Code of Conduct supporting character development

  • Good news notes, awards and celebrations with character focus

  • School related logo, mascot, motto on banners, tee shirts, etc.

  • School flags, songs and symbols linked to character activities or themes
  • Portfolios of student art and writings emphasizing positive character

  • Student behavior contracts supporting good character

  • Student declarations (i.e., I am . . .) of positive character

  • District-wide strategic plan which identifies character goals and initiatives

  • Vision statements include character education emphasis

  • Drug-free school compliance statement
