Dan Houston 2022 John Winthrop Wright Ethics in Action Awardee
Character.org recognized Dan Houston as the recipient of the 2022 John Winthrop Wright “Ethics in Action” Award as one outcome of a grant from SEE. Dan is Chairman, President and CEO of the Principal Financial Group
Dan was nominated for the award by Scott Raecker, the Executive Director of The Robert D. and Billie Ray Center at Drake University. In his nomination, Scott wrote that “Dan is passionate about ethics and integrity. As President, Dan repeatedly encourages his employees to speak up if someone is not following the company’s Global Code of Conduct. Dan wants his employees to summon their courage and do the “right thing.”

The John Winthrop Wright “Ethics in Action” Award is made possible by a grant from The School for Ethical Education (SEE). The Award was established to annually recognize an individual who has demonstrated a sustained commitment to ethical leadership by modeling and emphasizing core ethical values as essential to the mission and success of their company or organization. Dan was recognized and presented with the award on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 during Character.org’s Champions for Character Awards Ceremony. The 1-hour event was held virtually during COVID restrictions.
